"Fun Day Outside"

Evie and I went to The C's for lunch and playtime. We had a great time but Evie was in rare form. It was hilarious to see our kids interacting with each other. Evie was crying and Christian said, "Your girl is screaming." That made me laugh! He was right. She was screaming alright! The kids played in the tent, colored, ran around and had a grand time. We barely got two words out because our kids needed lots of attention this morning. Oh well, some days are like that but Evie has not stopped talking about her boys since we got home. Courtney made delicious turkey, swiss, arugula sandwiches with fig preserves. Oh my goodness, they were simply delicious! Courtney got out tubs of water for the kids and they gave all the cars a little bath. Evie thought this was super fun! We made a mad dash out because I felt surely that Evie was ready for nap time.

I told Evie that I was tired and she said, "Evie tired too." That had to mean a quick trip to dreamland but it took her a bit to settle down. I finished a book, took a nap and straightened up a little before she even fell asleep. Guess who woke up at 4:30 again today!

Carl got home a bit early because he has to go in for awhile in the morning. He mowed the grass and Evie and I went to get a new router and some pizza. Evie is such a little companion these days and makes me laugh so much!

She talks and talks all the time and it's so nice to actually understand the conversation. It's the little things that excite her like a "hill" on a sidewalk or a bunch of ants. She told me that "Evie play with ants." We ate our pizza outside on our patio and then spent some time outside. Evie's cousins gave us their old double stroller so Evie wanted to take it for a spin. She LOVES it and asked to go on another walk once we got back home. She told us that she was happy and that it was fun day outside! Ahh, I just love this age!

Genre

Thursday's are always my favorite day because it's a school day! It is hard to get out of the house, dressed and ready to go by 9 but it's well worth it for three hours to myself. Evie is just as happy as a lark to go to school and barely notices that I am gone. Too bad we cannot say the same thing for when I leave the room at home. You'd think the world was coming to an end until she finds me and informs me where she'd like me to sit which is always within several inches of where she is located.

All parents think their children are really smart and I must say Evie REALLY is a smart kid! She was running around in circles with her little friend, Levi, when I picked her up. She was happy to see me but asked if Raffi was in her bag. Her teachers told her that Raffi was in her bag but Evie was not so sure. We are about halfway home when my cellphone rings. It's LeighAnne the director letting me know that Raffi has made a mysterious appearance at school. HA! Evie was right. I told her the good news and she was so excited to hear that Raffi had been found. Evie told Carl that Raffi played at school today. I guess he did have his own little adventure but next time I may just listen to Evie!

Evie loves to practice her singing abilities on Thursday's while all her school songs are still fresh in her mind. Nap time tends to run a little late but she finally settled down about 2:30 and I had to wake her up at 4:30 so she could still get to sleep at a reasonable hour tonight.

She is not in the most pleasant mood when I wake her from her deep slumber. Nothing that a few cuddles and some lemonade can't fix. I keep reminding myself that this is the easy part of parenting - the really hard stuff happens later on down the road. Things that I will not be able to fix with cuddles and lemondade. The toddler years are the physical years of parenting but this is nothing compared to the BIG stuff,

Evie really wanted to go to the park after nap but it was too late. Carl was on his way home and I was starving. Evie helped her Daddy grill some burgers for dinner in between swinging sessions. Don't you think that perhaps she was swinging just a tad too high! Evie LOVES to swing high and has no fear at all. Claire, one of our little neighbors came over to talk with me about babysitting Evie. She announced that she had heard we were having a little boy and that she was waiting on her babysitting certificate to come in the mail. I told her to bring her certificate over once she gets it and then she can watch Evie while I do some things around the house. Claire is 10 - not so much babysitting age but she can entertain Evie for a bit while I take care of some things around the house.

We enjoyed our burgers and then Evie discovered a new genre - cookbooks. She took every cookbook that I own and spread them across the kitchen floor for her reading pleasure. After she had made a delightful mess, she decided it would be more fun to play "haircut" which is her new favorite game. Don't worry, scissors are not involved but she does clip the covers around Raffi with a chip clip - just like they do at the salon.

Boys!

Evie got a full dose of her boys today! She loves them and was so happy to see Courtney too at The Zinghopper's this morning. We sat towards the back and our kiddos were way more interested in snacking than singing today. They did a few dance moves for us and occasionally acted interested in a song. Evie delicately placed Cheez-its in Campbell's mouth. They are super cute together!

We headed to the mall next for a few quick stops including a late breakfast at Chick fil A. I love those Chicken Minis but goodness they have gotten so expensive. Must be the delicious Sister Schubert rolls that they use to make the minis. Evie got her feet measured so she can get some new Easter shoes and I tried introducing her to the Easter Bunny. Evie was not impressed even when he gave her a set of bunny ears.

Evie misses her cousins a lot! She said, "Evie fly in a plane to Kurt's house." Pretty cute stuff!

Evie uses the phrase, "No Way" hundreds of times a day and it was about to drive me crazy! I have been working with her on using "no thank you" instead. She finally used it appropriately today when I handed her a sandwich that did not suit her taste. Evie looked at me sweetly, passing the plate back to me and said, "no, thank you." She had hummus instead of a sandwich today.Evie kept talking about naps after lunch. I kept cleaning the kitchen and she was right next to me saying," Evie said nap!" I figured out real quick that she means business about her naps. Mommy took a nap today too!

After nap, we were going to the park until she saw her boys playing outside. Evie decided that would be way more fun and Mommy agreed so we headed over to see the boys. They ran, jumped, slid, rode and laughed the afternoon away. It is just so wonderful to see them developing such a special friendship. Evie was having so much fun that she decided it'd be super fun to slide down their slide head-first on her belly. Oh my, she has never done that before and it made me a bit nervous! Not Evie, she thought it was great! My sweet daughter has decided that bows are not always on her agenda anymore but she has way too much hair that bows are a neccesity. We will keep working on this! Evie was not ready to come home but decided it was not so bad after all after I cut her a pear for snack. Evie and I called Uncle Ben to wish him a Happy Birthday! We sure were happy to see Carl come home tonight! Evie let him fly her like a plane and they floated all kinds of things in the shower. We sure do love our Evie!

Say, Cheese!

I never thought this time would come but Evie is playing so well independently by herself! It's so nice to have a chance to get a load of laundry in the dryer or dry my hair. She loves her dolls, kitchen set and puzzles. Books are still a popular choice too and we still love to hear her read.

She was playing so well this morning that I hated to interrupt her but it was time to go run a few errands. Evie loves her new Elmo camera so much that she kept taking pictures of random people in the Home Depot. She would smile real big at them and say, cheese! It was pretty cute and luckily everyone else thought so too.

Evie had her first experience with celery at lunch. She ate some with cream cheese than decided it tasted better without it. Evie does not like the little strings in the celery at all though! Nap time was short yesterday due to the storm so she was extra tired. I put her down before 1 and she slept until after 4. She likes her feet to be covered and stays really still so the covers will stay on her.

I made some chocolate chip cookies during nap time. They were delicious. I found the recipe online and my only adjustment would be to use part semi-sweet chips if you use white chips because the white chips are extra sweet.

Chewy Chocolate Chip Cookies:
2 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
3/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
1 cup packed brown sugar
1/2 cup white sugar
1 Tbsp. vanilla extract
1 egg
1 egg yolk
2 cups chocolate chips (I use 1/2 white and 1/2 milk chocolate)

Preheat the oven to 325 degrees. Grease cookie sheets or line with parchment paper.

Sift together the flour, baking soda and salt; set aside.

In a medium bowl, cream together the melted butter, brown sugar and white sugar until well blended. Beat in the vanilla, egg and egg yolk until light and creamy. Mix in the sifted ingredients until just blended. Stir in the chocolate chips by hand using a wooden spoon. Drop cookie dough onto the prepared cookie sheets. Cookies should be about 3 inches apart.

Bake for 15-17 minutes (depending on size of cookie) in the preheated oven, or until the edges are lightly toasted. Cool on baking sheets for a few minutes before transferring to wire racks to cool completely.

Evie sampled a cookie after nap and then we picked up some limbs from the storm. Carl came home and picked up all the ones we left for him. Evie helped him grill some pork chops and we had a nice dinner. Dinnertime is so much more pleasant on the nights that Evie eats! She loved the pork and ate a bunch of apple slices too. Warmer temperatures are coming and we are looking forward to some nice weather!

Stormy Day!

It has been storming all day! We have had almost 2 inches of rain and the tornado sirens went off for over an hour. Our house is fine but lots of people were not so lucky with trees down, fences blown away and cars that wrecked. Evie and I stayed home all day but have a touch of cabin fever now.

We ironed, organized, played dolls and watched Arthur all morning. Evie loves reading Arthur books and watching Arthur shows.

We have had so much rain that the ants were bad and the exterminator had to come back for a touch up treatment. Evie kept finding ants and swiping them with her little wipe. It was pretty cute to hear her saying "More ants, Mommy" and she was so happy when the "ant man" came to visit this afternoon. She showed him right where they were hanging out by the door.

Evie played boat and told me that she was going fishing. We kept busy around the house but it's always fun when Carl gets home. We had one of our meal swap meals tonight - spaghetti and meatballs! YUMMY! Christina made them and they were perfect for a cold, rainy night.

I did not get many pictures of Evie today but she sure loves her new Bobble. Lollie and I found them at The Curious Gourmet in Franklin. It has a built-in filter so you can get water from any source and know that it is safe. The website lists lots of places that carry the Bobble even Harris Teeter has them!

Weekend Wrap-up!

Evie has been looking forward to the weekend all week because her cousins came to visit. She has talked about Mary and Lucy non-stop and was so excited when they arrived at our house yesterday.

Mary and Lucy are so sweet to Evie and keep her so entertained! Carl and I felt like we had a little vacation while they were visiting because Mary and Lucy helped Evie so much. We ate lunch right when they arrived and Evie ate more than she has in a long time. Havarti cheese was her main lunch staple and she certainly had plenty of it!

We all played outside before Evie crashed at nap time playing with big girls is hard work. Lollie and I went to downtown Franklin and visited a few of the little shops. We had some delicious fruit tea - a Nashville tradition.

Carl and Kurt had taken the girls to the park so we met them there. Carl grilled some chicken and we had a nice dinner. Mary and Lucy wanted to watch their movie, Tangled. Evie was happy to watch her first movie too. By 8:00, Evie was ready for bed and was asleep within seconds of hitting the crib.

Carl and I slept late this morning. Our house was so quiet but everyone was awake. Evie was playing in her crib and everyone else was downstairs. Mary brought Flat Stanley with her so we decided it would be fun to take Flat Stanley on an adventure to Nashville. We got a picture in front of Taylor Swift's house, Vanderbilt, the Ryman and visited the Parthenon. Evie was quite impressed with the Parthenon with all the ducks, people flying kites and lots of stairs to climb.

We were getting hungry so it was time for lunch at The Local Taco. Everyone else liked it as much as we do. It was yummy and Evie devoured the cheese dip and black beans. We were sad to see them go but we loved having them visit us!

Evie napped while Carl and I rested up a bit. We knew Evie would be high maintenance after her nap. Her first word was "cousins" after her nap. Carl and I had to work really hard at keeping her happy and entertained all afternoon and bedtime was a welcome respite.

We had a fun weekend and loved the gorgeous weather! Hope you had a fun weekend too!

Shipwrecked

Evie and I met some friends at a new play place, Shipwrecked. We had a great time but it was packed. Kids were everywhere. Evie loved the pirate ship. It was huge and took up half the room. Evie walked up and down the ramp for the longest time. One of our moms talked with us about new ideas to try with our toddlers. She had some fantastic ideas and I am looking forward to trying them with Evie.

We came home for a little playtime and were so excited when Carl got home early from his trip. Evie crashed after her busy morning. She was so thrilled to see her Daddy but she also loves her sleep.

We got a package of goodies today from my Aunt Libby. Evie ripped into it and had her new clothes on in a jiffy. Carl mowed the grass and I did a few things around the house. We ordered pizza for dinner and it took 1.5 hours for it to arrive. I know it's Friday but goodness that is a long time to wait for a pizza. Poor Evie did not eat until after 7 but she wanted to wait for pizza.

Carl put Evie to bed and now we are relaxing on the couch. Happy Friday!
