Evie is sleeping late with the time change. She wakes up around 8 or 8:30 and naps until nearly 5 which makes for bedtime closer to 8. I hope she gets back to normal next week because we like early bedtimes at our house for the kids and the parents.
Evie has been talking about her Nana and Ipop since they left yesterday morning. I am sure she wonders where in the world they went but she usually thinks that anyone that is missing must be at work. She even talks about her great-grandmother being at her job. Great-grandmother does not have a job!
Evie and I had a lazy day yesterday at home. We stayed in our pajama's all day and those make for the best kind of days. Evie and I headed to Chick fil A this morning to meet some friends for breakfast. I love their breakfast! Our kiddos had fun playing while we tried to have coversation but it's pretty hit or miss these days. We even forgot to discuss The Bachelor.
Evie and I stopped by Harris Teeter because we were out of strawberries which is a major problem at our house. Evie loves her "strawbies" and eats them three meals a day. Carl called right when we got home to see if we could meet him for lunch. We were not too hungry but did not want to pass up the chance to see him in the middle of the day so we took off.
Evie was thrilled to see her Daddy and sat with him eating chips and salsa for a long time. She gave him lots of hugs and kisses! Evie was not so thrilled when lunch was over and cried for a few minutes wanting her Daddy.
We came home for some playtime. Evie got a new book in the mail from Dolly Parton's Imagination Library and played with her Mrs. Potato Head. Nap time was late as usual but I had a nap too. Carl reminded me that I napped every day while pregnant with Evie so that made me feel better.
He came home early today which was nice and we spent some family time together. Evie is just a hoot to watch and had us laughing at her antics. She has decided that she likes her lion and wanted her doll stroller parked in her room along with her purple balloon from the grocery store. She's all tucked in for bed and I am not far behind her.
We have had a fun, relaxing weekend. Evie loves dogs so we headed out to a local dog show. It was amazing seeing so many dogs in one spot. Evie was not impressed with all the blow dryers. Some of those dogs were super groomed. I even saw a can of whitening spray next to one dog. It was a fun morning looking at sweet dogs.
We came home for a little playtime. Evie got to show off her Nana and Ipop to her boys and their parents. They all had fun running around the yard together!
Evie crashed at nap time. Carl and I ran out to test drive a new car while my parents stayed with Evie. We loved being out in the middle of the day together. That is a rare treat these days.
We played outside a bit after nap time and then grilled some chicken for dinner. Nana loved her birthday cake from Puffy Muffin. It was delicious and pink so Evie approved.
We stayed up way too late and morning came way too soon. It was time to celebrate Nana's birthday. She had a BIG birthday. Evie said she turned 2 so we will just go with that number.
Nana got an iPad from my Dad. We got her 60 gifts since she was turning 60. Oops, don't tell that she turned 60. I made a coffee cake from Valsolcal and it was quite tasty.
We went out for brunch and Evie devoured her waffle. She loves all things breakfast that involve syrup. Evie was not interested in napping but did amazingly well without her nap. She had some extra playmates to keep her occupied.
I made barbecue for dinner . . . another Valsocal recipe and it was so good. Evie entertained us all after dinner. She is the star of the show for sure!
Happy Birthday, Mom! We are so glad you came to celebrate with us. I will post pictures and edit tomorrow.
Evie and I were all the over place this morning running a few last minute errands. She did a great job shopping and loves her new spot inside the buggy. There is not as much room for my items but that's a small price to pay for a happy shopping companion.
Evie talked herself to sleep again. She kept saying "hee hee, ha ha" until she finally fell asleep. She woke up at 5:30. YIKES! My parents are on the way so she will hopefully make it until they get here. I am ready for her to go to bed though. It's been a long day but she is not ready for sleep yet.
We just had our last Meal Swap meal . . . spaghetti pie and it was so delicious! Evie ate olives and mango for dinner but she had some on her plate which has to count for something.
Hope your weekend is off to a terrific start!
YUCK! That is the best way to describe our weather today. It's been cold and rainy! Evie had MMO this morning and I ran a few errands. My parents are coming tomorrow so that is exciting. We have not seen them since Evie's birthday which is a LONG time for us. We all survived and are looking forward to a fun visit with Nana and Ipop!
Evie must know something is going on around here because she is NEEDY! I heard "up and no way" hundreds of times today. It's nice to hold her but she is getting a tad heavy for me to cart her around everywhere. We were walking to the car after school and she said "hold, car's hit!" How can I turn that down? She was also "scared" to walk from the bottom of the stairs through the dining room to the kitchen. Not sure what she was afraid of but we managed to make it into the kitchen unharmed!
Happy Birthday to our sweet friend Campbell! He turned 2 today and Evie wanted cake to celebrate and wanted to get him a "boon" which is a balloon. Courtney told me that Campbell wanted chocolate and Evie. HA! Those two sure are funny!
It was a chicken noodle soup kind of night in Nashville. Carl loves homemade chicken noodle soup which is pretty easy the way that I do it. Healthy too which is a bonus! Blogger is super slow tonight so I am signing off!
Evie and I headed out to Moms Together this morning. She was the first one in her class and that did not go over too well with her. Her mood quickly changed when she found out that she'd be making a boat. I enjoyed my group. We learned about cleaning naturally and being our own mommy. Not trying to be the kind of mother that we had or trying to be like our SIL or best friend. Lots of things to ponder! I loved the quote of the day and especially since one of our topics was on cleaning house.
Quote of the Day:
" Good moms have sticky floors, dirty ovens and happy kids."
I love it! My floors are always sticky and my oven is definitely dirty but Evie sure is happy.
Lent began today. We are doing 40 Days of Love at our house. Each day, we will tell each other one reason why we love them. I told Evie that I love her because she has developed a love for reading books! That makes me so happy! I told Carl that I love him for going to work every day, and working hard for our family. He NEVER complains and has such a good attitude. I appreciate him giving me the opportunity to stay home with our daughter. We will keep most of these to ourselves but I read about this idea today and thought it was worth sharing in case anyone else wanted to try this with their family. I really wanted us to give up electronics but that idea did not go over so well at my house. Oh well, this is way better!
I am also doing 40 Days, 40 Bags which is so exciting for me! I have lots of junk stuff that needs clearing out before we inundate ourselves with more baby stuff. Carl's closet is one of my first places that needs some work. Carl found a pair of pants that he has not worn since 1999. He has moved nearly 10 times since 1999 but kept moving them along from house to house. I'll help him out so he can find clothes a little more quickly in the mornings. Evie's room is probably the most organzied in the house which works out well since she is about to move to my office. That will be an easy move! Our attic needs lots of work along with the garage. I cannot wait to have less clutter taking up space in my house.
Congratulations to my sweet friend Susan and her husband Pat on the birth of their gorgeous son, John Hudson. Jack is one handsome boy and I am so excited for the Reilly's as they begin this wonderful adventure called parenthood. They will be fabulous!!! I am hoping Susan takes good notes for me since I can barely remember Evie being a tiny baby. Welcome to the World, Jack! I cannot wait to meet you.
It was a bit of a dreary day in Nashville. We are ready for blue skies and warm days. Evie and I invited Campbell over to play this morning along with his Mommy. Christian was at school. It was so nice having a play date. Campbell and Evie played well and needed little interference from us which gave us time to drink coffee and eat banana bread. I made my favorite recipe for banana bread that has lots of sour cream which makes it super moist. Evie is a huge fan so it looks like I have a use for all of our brown bananas.
Evie and Campbell wore each other out! They both went to sleep without a fuss. Campbell was asking for his nap and Evie fell asleep within minutes of hitting the sack. Evie is getting too smart for me. I gave her sassy as we were heading up for her nap. She asked for a pink one so I told her the handle was pink. Evie said, " No, it blue." She was right - it was a blue sassy. I took a nap too after finishing my last assignment for my online course. YEAH!!
Evie and I did a little painting after nap. I found some washable paint at the dollar store in the little plastic cases with several colors. Perfect price and a good size for little hands. It makes me a little nervous when the colors get all mixed up but Evie did pretty well. I gave her lots of brushes which minimized the color mixing that drives me batty.
Carl came home and took Evie outside to play in the rain with her new "brella.: Evie loves umbrellas and can spot them a mile away so I bought her a cheap-o umbrella to play with and it has provided lots of entertainment already. It will probably be broken by the end of the week but Evie thinks her Daddy can fix everything so she's not too worried.
Evie is really into what we are doing next. She likes to know the plan and what is happening next. She likes to ask me about the next toy and the next book. We are still hearing "againt" every time she wants something again. Sometimes she even says "againt two" which means another time. I think we read "I'm a Big Sister" approximately 100 times today. She loves that book. Let's hope she likes being a big sister just as much as she likes the book.
Evie and I went to Peek a Boo Playtown this morning. It was a happening place this morning. The Zinghopper's were even there singing and dancing for St. Patrick's Day. Evie was excited because they even had cake. We made a green noodle necklace and played with bubbles. It was a fun morning and I felt sure that Evie would pass out at nap time.
Guess what someone did not stop talking long enough to fall asleep. She just chatted away and was perfectly happy in her crib for 2 hours. I went in to get her out of the crib, she said, " Evie, no night-night."
We were folding clothes upstairs when Evie spotted her boys outside. They just got back from visiting their grandparents. Evie was ready to go see her friends. Campbell and Christian were driving their gator and Evie took her turn in the drivers seat. I told Christian not to worry that Evie would not drive it. Well, she took right off driving across their yard with a big grin on her face. Thank goodness, that I had grabbed my camera on the way out the door. Be sure to notice that Evie has three bows in her hair. Courtney was so sweet to bring those back for Evie. My little one was so happy to have new bows that she wanted to wear all of them!
Evie was thrilled when her Daddy drove up. They had fun running around the yard together while I prepared some chicken tortilla soup for dinner.
By this point, Evie was showing some signs of crankiness. We fed her a quick dinner and put her to bed. It's Bachelor night but the Cougar's are playing. We did not know that the game would be on but it is so that is way better than The Bachelor! Good Luck, CofC!!!
