Week in Review!

We have a busy weekend planned but both kids have a fever. I decided to jot down a few things about our week before it feels like last year. Our weekend plans may not happen but at least our week will be documented. It was good week. Henry has been sleeping great at night and napping well too. Evie has been sweet as pie and full of boundless energy.

Monday: We went to Whole Foods. I cannot tell you how many times the thought of taking two kids to a grocery store without a double buggy has entered my mind and it just seemed too hard! Well, I survived our Trader Joe's trip so it was onto Whole Foods. Evie has a book about a scone-eating dinosaur so she decided that scones were needed immediately in her house. I was so proud of Evie for making connections with literature that it seemed like a perfectly fine idea to pick up some scones. Mama loves scones too. Maybe Evie can make a connection about cupcakes or pie this week because Mama loves those too.  Evie was amazing in Whole Foods. She just walked alongside me in the store and helped me select the items off our list including the scones. As we were checking out, a man with some major dreadlocks got in line behind us. Evie looked at him and then looked at me and said in her loudest voice, "Look Mama, that man has lots of hair." Yes, Evie he does have a lot of hair. Thankfully, he happened to have a 3 year daughter of his own so gets that her filter has not quite developed. We went for a picnic at the park. Evie was concerned that we did not have plans to meet a friend at the park. She informed that she would make her own friend there but she became distracted by all the little boys running around without their shirts. One little boy came up to me and mentioned that Evie told him that he was naked. Only Evie would find it necessary or important to acknowledge such a minor detail. It was so fun and a wonderful way to spend some time with my two favorite people even if Evie was unable to locate her own friend. Nap time was a breeze after all that fresh air, sunshine and scones. We woke up and headed outside to play with our favorite neighbors.

Tuesday: Evie went to school and Henry stayed home with me. He napped and I did a few things around the house then we headed out to the park for a walk. It was HOT! We had a little bit of time to kill before picking up Evie so we headed out to look for a bedspread for Evie. She wants a "pink bedspray not purple and it needs to be cozy." That's hard to find but we will keep working on it. Evie and I made cupcakes for Carl to take to work. She kept talking about her Daddy taking cupcakes to his friends. It was really sweet. We had a break-through with the mixer too. Evie decided that it's not so scary after all. She's spent the last few months running from the room as soon as I mention the mixer because it's too "soundy. "

Wednesday: We had our Wednesday Wildcats this morning and had a ball with our friends. Sarah hosted and we enjoyed a nice lunch along with cupcakes. YUMMY! Evie loves to play there because they have an older daughter with lots of pink stuff for Evie to enjoy while she is visiting. Plus, Evie always leave with something that Lauren has outgrown. Rollerskates and a cherry outfit were handed-down this time and that made Evie's day. She keeps telling me that she wants to go back to that princess house. We had a family dinner and then Carl mowed the grass. It's hard to get family dinner in sometimes but it's important to us so we try to make it work. Sometimes, we eat a snack with the kids and our dinner after they go to bed since they go to sleep so early.

Thursday: Evie woke up with a fever so she stayed home from school with me. She seemed to be fine but I decided to keep her out just in case. We hung out at home all morning and then went to the grocery store. After naps, everyone seemed better so we went to a friends house for a late afternoon play date and dinner. Our kids had fun playing outside while we chatted.

Friday: Our day started off around 2:00 in the morning when Evie fell out of her bed. She was not happy and wanted to sleep with me. Carl was out of town so I let her. She seemed really hot all night and then she had a fever this morning. We had a playdate planned at our house and had to cancel. After Henry's nap, Evie seemed to be doing a little better so we headed out to get her bedrails. Evie said that she'd just stay in the car with Henry when we got to Toys R Us. Not sure, where she came up with that but needless to say she did not stay in the car with Henry. We hurried inside to get some bedrails. Gender neutral stuff is so hard to find. Target only had blue rails and Toys R Us only had pink or Spongebob. Of course, Evie chose pink and then decided that she needed to go home right then because she did not feel well. She went upstairs and went to sleep for 3.5 hours and woke up even hotter than before. Carl was home at this point so we decided to take her to the doctor. Her medicine kicked in by the time we arrived at the pediatricain's office and it seemed like she was fine. Dr. B thinks that it is probably a UTI with fever lasting for three days without any other major symptoms. I have read about lots of moms trying to get their small chidlren to give a urine sample in a cup. When the nurse gave me my instructions, I started laughing so hard because I knew that was not going to happen! Evie thought the green cup was so pretty but she told me that she needed to wait until she got home. We picked up a pizza on the way home and as soon as we walked in the door Evie took her cup in the bathroom and collected her own sample. Let's hope that we can get her to do this again in the morning. Carl put the bedrails on her bed so hopefully everyone can get a full-nights sleep. Evie was really sad about missing Christian's birthday party tonight at the zoo. She told me that her boys were going to miss her so much. We are sad to miss our favorite five-year old's birthday party.

  1. I hope everyone is feeling better soon. I tried to get Avery to give a sample at the doctor's office and all we got was my sweat! They gave us a little "catcher" to put under the seat at home, which you probably know about. By the time we had to do it again we decided it would be a good thing to bleach and keep. Have a great weekend!

  3. Sorry to hear about Evie falling out of the bed and possibly having a UTI! Getting Emily to pee in a cup would be impossible!! She has yet to pee in anything but a diaper (and the floor, of course).

    Hope she feels better soon!
