Our kitchen was in serious need of a makeover when we moved in almost three years ago. Worn linoleum floors, 80's cabinets, outdated lighting and every major appliance on it's last leg. Not to mention the large "box" that framed the kitchen ceiling. It's been a process to get everything accomplished . . . a very slow process.
This is what we started with . . .
It was easier on our budget to go slowly and gave us some time to figure out exactly what we wanted.
Here's a picture after most of the work was completed:
Carl really wanted to fill the space with a tile back splash and we still might use tile under the cabinets. However, we agreed that something needed to be done to the open space above our range. The empty space was big and beige! I searched magazines, talked to friends, pinned ideas on Pinterest and finally decided that a shelf would work out just fine.
We have a wonderful handyman that is able to work miracles with my grandiose ideas without breaking the bank. Carl sketched out his idea and Scott was able to take the idea a bit further with a slight arc and some molding. This sweet soft Southern shelf was the perfect way to take up some space while providing me with some functional space. It's fun to change the shelf-scape with the seasons and allows me easy access to my favorite cookbooks. Pictures do not give the full impact but this little shelf really made our kitchen.
Now, I just need a window treatment!

The kitchen is gorgeous! It's so much brighter and cheery! :)
ReplyDeleteLOVE it!! All of it! The shelf is just precious!! Just curious...do you have a microwave? ;) Haha!
ReplyDeleteYes, we opted to install a double oven and put a small microwave in our pantry. Good Question!
DeleteLove the shelf!! Looks great! Do you guys not have range hoods/fans over your range??
ReplyDeleteWe have a down draft in our cooktop. I love the look of a hood though!
DeleteWhat a great idea when you don't have a range hood! I would use that little shelf for all things seasonal and change it out with every season. Just a little touch of *newness* every season in your kitchen.
ReplyDeletei love it!!! it looks amazing! what a beautiful transformation. and the shelf - perfect!!!
ReplyDeleteThis is BEAUTIFUL! I love the ideas you put in place! Did you get new cabinetry or did you paint? It is so fresh and clean! Also, how did you find a good handyman after you moved?
